     Richard A. Olivo’s practice emphasizes business transactions.  Specifically, his practice encompasses the buying, selling and financing of businesses, including matters relating to shareholders’ buy-sell agreements, employment and independent contractor agreements, trade secret protection, trademark and service mark registration, competitive business practices, securities, and business structuring and financing.  Other practice areas include: estate planning (wills/trusts), probate, municipal law, immigration, family law, personal injury and criminal defense. 

Background

 

     Mr. Olivo was born in El Paso, Texas in 1966.  He has lived in the Philippines, Spain and Belgium and graduated from Cairo American College in Cairo, Egypt in 1984.  Mr. Olivo earned his BA in political science from The University of Texas at El Paso in 1988 and JD from Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 1997, where he served as the Student Bar Association president.  Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Olivo worked as an associate on the Business and Technology Team at Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch, LLP in San Diego, California.  In May 1999, he started his solo practice in El Paso, Texas.  Mr. Olivo was elected as Judge of Municipal Court #4 on May 9, 2009, after having been appointed to the same position on September 9, 2008, by the El Paso City Council to fill an unexpired term. He previously served the City of El Paso as an Associate Municipal Judge from August 2001 until his appointment.  Mr. Olivo is fluent in Spanish.

Representative Matters

 

·         Presently serving as a Director and General Counsel to MobilServ Technologies, Inc., the technological leader in providing concession services through the Internet and other wireless telecommunications systems at professional and college stadiums and arenas nationwide.

·         Drafted an employee stock option plan for a human resources company.

·         Represented the buyer in the purchase of a fifty-percent interest in a $1 Million multi-media/marketing venture.

·         Organized a U.S.-based limited liability company and drafted various intellectual property license agreements for an internationally renowned Mexican musical group to facilitate its North American tour.

·         Submitted numerous trademark and service mark applications to the USPTO for various business ventures.

·         Advised web design firm concerning shareholders’ rights agreement.

·         Represented the buyer in the asset purchase of a pharmacy worth $275,000.

·         Represented the U.S. buyer in the stock purchase of five Mexican companies in the shelter services business in a transaction worth $6 Million.

·         Represented the seller in the sale of a $1.5 Million contract in the manufacturing services business based in Cd. Juarez, Mexico.

·         Represented the seller in the sale of a warehouse, an easement and an option to buy an additional acre of land to a Fortune 50 company in a transaction that exceeded $1 Million.

·         Represented the seller in the sale of assets of one of Hollywood’s leading film production equipment manufacturers in a transaction worth $1.1 Million.

·         Successfully negotiated a $375,000 settlement against a nurse’s aide for a negligence action resulting in two broken femurs to an elderly patient.
